Challenges, Blessings, and God’s Faithfulness

Dear Shining Hope Family,
The past two months have brought both challenges and blessings.
First, Kalungi’s camera failed, followed by his phone, making it difficult to stay connected with our donors. Fifteen of our children fell sick with dysentery. His land brokerage business faced a slow and uncertain season. In Kalungi’s words, “I’ve been tested through this period, and God has a reason for that.”
But, as the Bible reminds us, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all” (Psalm 34:19). And indeed, God provided. Kalungi bought a new phone, each of the sick children recovered, and his business is beginning to flourish once again.
Beyond these answers to prayer, here are three more joyful things God has done—plus one personal piece of news!

Easter Blessings
“This Easter,” Kalungi wrote, “God enabled me to reach out to two elderly people in need. Though it was simple, it was deeply meaningful for them—and for me. It had been a while since I last spent time doing one of the things I love most: listening to someone who needed someone to pour out to.
"I could see the joy in their eyes at being remembered and heard. Many elderly individuals reach a point where they feel overlooked by society, as if they no longer matter. Even a small gesture—like a visit and conversation—can mean the world. While I couldn’t capture these moments with my camera, I wanted to share this experience with you.”
A Powerful Sunday Service
In May, we welcomed Pastor Peter for a home service with 95 children and 28 adults in attendance. Afterwards, the young ones expressed interest in learning more about the Gospel, and the adults requested to be notified of future gatherings. We are grateful for the hunger for God’s Word that continues to grow within our community.

A New School Term Begins
The Shining Hope children began their second term on May 26th, with all school requirements fully met! We praise God for His provision and for the generosity of friends like you who make it possible.

And lastly—on a personal note—Rachel said “I do” in early April! Shining Hope family, meet my husband, Ogi!

Though life brings trials, God has never allowed us to lack. We remain forever grateful for your prayers, love, and support. Thank you for everything you do for the children and people of Uganda!
Much love,
Kalungi + Rachel
